Answer to Egypt Quiz #21
Saddam Hussein entered Cairo University in 1962 to study law, before returning to Iraq in 1964.
As vice president of Iraq in the 1970s he implemented a nation-wide literacy program (failure to participate was punishable by 3 years in prison) for which he received a UNESCO award.
Between 1980 and 1990 President Saddam is estimated to have raised the size of the Iraq army fivefold to 900,000 men, making it the fourth largest army in the world.
